Due to repeated issues selling the iPhone 4S in China due to massive crowds of scalpers (and violence stemming from a lack of supply to meet overwhelming demand), Apple’s trying a new tactic for selling its flagship handset. If you want to buy an iPhone in Hong Kong, you’ll need to enter your information on Apple’s site and enter a lottery. Potential buyers can only put in for a phone between 9am and 12pm, and must include their government ID; if you’re selected, Apple will email you by 9pm that evening and let you know when to pick up your device the next day.
