Kinect Gives Hackers a New Toy to Play With – Open Source Kinect PC Driver

Instead of gaming with the Kinect, Microsoft’s latest accessory  for the Xbox 360 (see review), hackers and other computer savvy people are doing puppet shows, controlling robots, moving 3D graphics in the air, and more.

Xbox 360's Kinect is being used for more than just games thanks to an open source Kinect driver.

These are things that otherwise would cost thousands of dollars and a ton of development hours, so thank you Microsoft, and thanks for giving the thumbs up (even though initially you disapproved). Check the link to the article for the full story.

If you’re interested in downloading the open source Kinect camera driver then see the download links here. Just remember, as coder Hector Martin wrote on the driver’s ReadMe file; "Horribly hacky first take at a Kinect Camera driver." So, you may or may not be able to make your microwave accept motion commands to heat that Hot Pocket.
